Bound for Berlin

Is it cheating to blog here just to say that I’ve blogged somewhere else…? Nah, I don’t think so—it’s meta-blogging!

So, I’ve just posted a nice long entry on my food blog, Principia Gastronomica—and man, if you think Wordridden languishes, just check out how infrequently Principia Gastronomica gets updated. It’s like, once every few months.

I feel really bad about this because I love writing about food, and I love Principia Gastronomica and know other people enjoy it as well. It’s just that it takes an inordinately long time to get posts together for the site. Dishes have to be tested, decent food pics have to be taken (and it’s really tricky to cook and take pictures of what you’re cooking at the same time), and recipes have to be written up in a way that won’t intimidate someone who’s just getting comfortable in the kitchen but also won’t bore someone who cooks regularly and enthusiastically. I also like to research the history of the foods I’m writing about, which takes time as well. But hey, quality not quantity, right? Principia Gastronomica might not get updated very often, but I’m really pleased with every post that’s up there.

My latest post is a timely one indeed, seeing as it’s about Spätzle and tomorrow morning I’m rising at the crack of dawn (again) to fly to Germany (again). I’m not going to the home of Spätzle, however, but rather to Berlin, home of Currywurst, cabaret and the Berliner Weisse—not to mention more sites of historical interest than I will possibly have time to see in four days.

I’m still not entirely sure what I’m going to do while I’m there, but I do have a rough list of Things That Must Be Seen At Some Point:

Yeah, so, that’s probably not all going to happen, is it? No matter, there will undoubtedly be other trips to Berlin. I really can’t wait to get there and start exploring tomorrow, but first I have to head off and tackle one last dreaded task before going: namely, packing…
